iCloud is Apple’s cloud service for storing, syncing, and managing personal data across Apple devices and, via iCloud for Windows, on Windows PCs. The service centralizes photos, files, mail, calendars, contacts, device backups, passwords, and location services, maintaining consistent access to content across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and supported Windows systems.

• iCloud Drive: Provides cloud storage for documents, files, and folders that remain accessible and editable across devices. On Windows, iCloud Drive integrates with File Explorer so files can be viewed, downloaded, kept locally, or shared from the desktop.
• Photos: Stores and synchronizes photos and videos across devices with options to download originals to a PC or keep optimized versions in the cloud. Shared albums and iCloud Shared Photo Library are supported when enabled.
• Backup and Restore: iCloud stores device backups—settings, app data, messages, and more—so content can be restored to a new or reset iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

iCloud for Windows is available from the Microsoft Store and must be signed in with the same Apple Account used on Apple devices. The app exposes iCloud Drive, Photos, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, and Passwords to a Windows environment and offers granular sync controls during setup. Certain features require specific platform versions or additional configuration: the latest iCloud for Windows works best on machines running current Windows releases, and integration with Outlook requires compatible Outlook versions.

Account security and modern protections affect Windows sign‑in requirements. Accounts using Advanced Data Protection or security keys require recent iCloud for Windows releases and may impose proximity or network conditions (for example, a trusted Apple device within Bluetooth range or the same Wi‑Fi router).
